Dr Gill Main and PhD student Pablo Cheyre recently attended the International Society for Child Indicators conference in Gramado, Brazil, where they both presented their research in a panel session organised by Gill, on the importance of including children’s perspectives.

Pablo spoke about his PhD research, which focuses on developing an understanding of child well-being, drawing on the perspectives of Chilean children and young people. He is focusing on case studies of children in rural and urban, and rich and poor, environments, and his participatory research has generated a huge amount of data on the perspectives of these young people on their well-being, as well as differences and similarities based on location and socioeconomic status.

Gill presented some preliminary findings from the Barriers to Attendance project, which investigated poverty-related barriers to school attendance among secondary-aged children in a UK city.
