An online international conference hosted by the University of Leeds, UK and the University of Education, Winneba, Ghana.

The theme of this conference is the development of early care and education of deaf children (ECE) that is inclusive of countries of the south. Presentations and discussion will examine different contexts for ECE, and approaches to the development of contextually sensitive intervention. International keynote speakers will share their research perspectives and the UK-Ghana research team will share the outcomes of their work with caregivers of deaf children, practitioners, and deaf advocates in Ghana. We will reflect on ways in which south-north partnerships and cross context conversations can expand the science of ECE and enhance international scholarship and capacity building.

We are delighted to confirm a programme of exciting presentations from distinguished keynote speakers from across the field and the UK-Ghana ECE project team:

  • Professor Nidhi Singal, Professor of Disability and Inclusive Education, University of Cambridge
  • Bolajoko Olusanya, Director of the Centre for Healthy Start Initiative, Ikoyi, Lagos, Nigeria
  • Elaine Gale, Associate Professor, Hunter College, The City University of New York, USA
  • Professor Ruth Swanwick, Principal Investigator, Professor of Deaf Education, School of Education, University of Leeds
  • Dr Yaw Offei, Co-Investigator, University of Education, Winneba, Ghana
